Abstract
Thestudyofcongenitallydeafindividualsprovidesauniqueopportunitytounderstandtheorganizationandpotentialforreorganizationofhumanauditorycortex.Weusedmagneticresonanceimaging(MRI)toexaminethestructuralorganizationoftwoauditorycorticalregions,Heschl’sgyrus(HG)andtheplanumtemporale(PT),indeafandhearingsubjects.TheresultsshowpreservationofcorticalvolumeinHGandPTofdeafsubjectsdeprivedofauditoryinputsincebirth.Measurementsofgreyandwhitematter,aswellasthelocationandextentoftheseregionsinthedeafshowed
